KEF Q3 Meta Satin Black (Pair)

The KEF Q3 Meta is a two-way bookshelf speaker that sits at the heart of KEF’s Q Meta series, bringing the brand’s celebrated Uni-Q driver array and Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) to a mid-size standmount package. Designed to work equally well as a stereo music speaker or as part of a home cinema system, the Q3 Meta delivers the kind of detailed, natural sound that KEF has been synonymous with for over 50 years.

12th Generation Uni-Q Driver Array

At the core of the Q3 Meta is KEF’s 12th generation Uni-Q driver array, combining a 25mm aluminium dome tweeter mounted concentrically within a 165mm (6.5-inch) aluminium mid/bass cone. This coaxial arrangement places both drive units at the same acoustic point, creating a more coherent and three-dimensional soundstage than conventional two-way designs. The result is exceptionally even dispersion across a wide listening area, meaning the sweet spot is far broader than you might expect from a speaker at this price.

Metamaterial Absorption Technology

MAT is a breakthrough acoustic technology developed in partnership with the Acoustics Research Centre at the University of Salford. The metamaterial — a maze-like structure fitted behind the tweeter — absorbs up to 99% of the unwanted sound that would otherwise radiate from the rear of the dome into the cabinet, colouring the output. By eliminating this back-wave distortion, MAT allows the tweeter to operate with far greater purity, contributing to the Q3 Meta’s notably clean and natural high-frequency presentation.

Thoughtful Cabinet Design

The Q3 Meta uses a rear-ported bass reflex enclosure tuned to extend bass response usefully below 50Hz. Port bungs are included, allowing the speaker to be placed closer to a rear wall with minimal low-frequency boom. The cabinet is available in Satin White, Satin Black, and Walnut finishes, each finished to a high standard. Magnetically attached grilles are included for a clean look when not listening critically, and four rubber feet protect both speaker and shelf surface.

Versatile Placement and System Compatibility

With a recommended amplifier power range of 15 to 150 watts and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the Q3 Meta is compatible with a wide range of stereo amplifiers and AV receivers. Sensitivity of 87dB (2.83V/1m) means it will work well with medium-powered integrated amplifiers. KEF’s optional SQ1 floor stands (sold separately) are purpose-designed for the Q3 Meta and raise it to an ideal listening height, while wall bracket mounting is also supported for more flexible installation.
