Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast (LP) [2024] Vinyl

The Number of the Beast is the third studio album by the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 22 March 1982 by EMI. It was the first Iron Maiden album to feature vocalist Bruce Dickinson and the first to top the UK Albums Chart, the record that carried the band to international success.

The Album

Recorded through 1981 and early 1982 at Battery Studios in London with producer Martin Birch, the album captured a line-up of Bruce Dickinson on vocals, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith on guitars, Steve Harris on bass and Clive Burr on drums, the last Iron Maiden album to feature Burr. It runs to eight tracks across two sides, opening with "Invaders" and closing with the seven-minute "Hallowed Be Thy Name", and includes the singles "Run to the Hills" and the title track. The striking sleeve, showing Eddie manipulating a devil, was painted by the artist Derek Riggs.

Legacy

The Number of the Beast met with critical and commercial success and is regarded as a landmark of the new wave of British heavy metal. It reached the top 40 of the US Billboard 200 and established Iron Maiden as one of the leading bands of the genre.
