Description
The Hemp sits within Grado's Classic Series as one of the brand's most distinctive open-back, on-ear designs. Originally launched as a limited run, it pairs Grado's traditional craft with an unusual housing material: a bi-wood construction that combines hempwood with maple. Each pair is hand-built by the Grado team in Brooklyn.
Construction
The earpiece housing is formed from hemp and maple. The highly compressed hemp introduces a damping effect between its fibres, working alongside the maple to shape the headphone's character. The two driver units are matched to within 0.05dB of each other. A padded leather headband with white stitching tops the design, and the low-profile F cushions place the drivers close to the ears.
Drivers and Sound
The Hemp uses a 44mm X2 dynamic driver operating on Grado's open-air (open-back) principle, with a frequency response spanning 13Hz to 28kHz and a nominal impedance of 38 ohms. The combination of materials is intended to produce a fuller presentation, with a noticeable low end and a top end that extends smoothly.
Connection
An attached 8-conductor braided cable terminates in a 3.5mm (mini) plug, and a 1/4 inch (6.35mm) adapter is supplied for use with full-size headphone outputs and amplifiers.
