The SR80 sits one step above the entry-level SR60 in Grado's Classic Series, the open-back, wired headphone range introduced in 2026 that brings refinements from the company's higher-tier Signature line down to more accessible price points. Hand-assembled in Brooklyn, New York, it is widely regarded as the heart of the Grado line for listeners taking their first serious step into open-back hi-fi headphones.
The X2 Driver
At the centre of the SR80 is Grado's 44mm X2 dynamic driver, the platform shared across the Classic Series. It is built around a Mylar diaphragm, a copper voice coil, and a rare earth magnetic system, engineered for efficiency and control. Grado pairs the drivers to within 0.1dB of each other, helping to keep the stereo image balanced and consistent between the left and right channels.
Sound
Compared with the SR60, the SR80 delivers greater immediacy and presence, with tighter bass, more forward midrange energy, and extended high-frequency detail. This makes it the livelier, more direct option in the lower reaches of the range while retaining the lively character that has long defined the SR80.
Design and Comfort
The open-back architecture lets the music breathe, contributing to the open, spacious presentation Grado headphones are known for; as an open design, they leak sound both in and out and are intended for considered home listening rather than commuting. A lightweight die-injection moulded housing keeps the SR80 durable and comfortable to wear, while the standard headband assembly with its padded synthetic strap and internal steel spring band lets you adjust the inward pressure for a personal fit.
Connection
The SR80 is fitted with Grado's fixed, hard-wired Bronze cable, engineered to be lighter, softer, and more flexible than previous Grado cables while maintaining signal integrity. It terminates in a 3.5mm plug, and a 1/4in (6.35mm) adapter is included for use with full-size headphone amplifiers and hi-fi equipment.
