The Grado SR225x sits in the middle of the Prestige Series, above the SR60x and SR125x and below the SR325x. It occupies the point in the range where Grado’s tighter driver matching and upgraded cabling begin to pull noticeably ahead of the entry-level models, making it the first Prestige headphone where stereo imaging and tonal balance become a genuine strength rather than a pleasant side-effect.
Fourth-Generation Driver
The SR225x uses Grado’s fourth-generation 44mm dynamic driver, which features a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with decreased effective mass, and a reconfigured diaphragm. Together these changes are intended to improve efficiency, reduce distortion, and preserve harmonic integrity across the frequency range. Drivers are matched to within ±0.05 dB — closer than the SR60x and SR125x — contributing to more precise stereo imaging and a more even tonal balance between left and right channels.
Cable and Construction
Signal is carried by an eight-conductor cable using super-annealed copper wire, designed to improve purity and reduce signal-path resistance. The headband has been redesigned with additional cushioning for longer listening sessions, and the new F cushion ear pads open up the soundstage to deliver more textured tones compared to the smaller pads used on lower models in the Prestige range. Every SR225x is hand-built at Grado’s facility in Brooklyn, New York.
Sound Character
The open-air design produces a natural, spacious presentation with the warm harmonic colour, smooth top-end, and dynamic midrange that characterise the Prestige Series. The SR225x is designed for dedicated home listening where clarity, dynamics, and midrange accuracy are priorities — it is not intended for portable use or noisy environments.
