The Grado SR125x sits in the middle of the Prestige Series, positioned between the SR80x and SR225x. It uses Grado’s fourth-generation dynamic driver technology, sharing the same core engineering advances introduced across the X Series while offering a step up in refinement and resolution over the entry-level models.
Fourth-Generation Driver
At the heart of the SR125x is a 35mm dynamic driver built around a more powerful magnetic circuit than its predecessor. The voice coil uses a decreased effective mass, and the diaphragm has been reconfigured to improve efficiency and reduce distortion while maintaining harmonic integrity. These changes result in improved detail retrieval and a wider dynamic range without sacrificing the open, immediate presentation Grado headphones are known for.
Cable and Construction
The SR125x uses an 8-conductor cable wound from super annealed copper wire, enhancing audio signal purity. The headband has been redesigned with increased cushioning for improved comfort during extended listening sessions. Like all Grado headphones, the SR125x is hand-built in Brooklyn, New York.
Open-Air Design
The SR125x uses an open-air operating principle, allowing air to pass freely through the ear cups. This eliminates the internal pressure and resonance that closed-back designs can introduce, contributing to a natural, spacious soundstage. The trade-off is minimal noise isolation — these headphones are designed for focused home listening rather than portable use.
