The GS1000 sits near the top of Grado's Classic Series, positioned just below the flagship GS3000. It is a large over-ear, open-back headphone built around Grado's 50mm X2 dynamic driver, the oversized G cushion, and a full mahogany housing. Within the range it represents the bigger-bodied, more spacious presentation that has long defined Grado's most ambitious open-back designs.
Design and Construction
Each earpiece uses a full mahogany housing, chosen for the way the timber colours and shapes the headphone's sound. The 50mm X2 dynamic driver is built around a Mylar diaphragm, a copper voice coil and a rare earth magnetic system, with left and right drivers matched to a tolerance of 0.05 dB. The headphone is fitted with the Signature Gold headband assembly that it shares with the flagship GS3000, signalling its standing within the Classic Series rather than treating it as an entry model.
Comfort and Fit
The GS1000 ships with Grado's G cushions, the largest cushions in the Grado line-up. These hold the driver further from the ear and open up a wider, more spacious soundstage. The Classic Series introduces a refined cable derived from the Signature line that is lighter and more flexible for easier handling over long listening sessions.
Sound
Grado describes the GS1000 as open and effortless rather than aggressive, with refined tuning developed through years of listening and feedback. The result is a presentation that feels immersive and spacious without losing precision, while preserving the lively character that has long defined Grado headphones.
