Goldring Eroica LX Moving Coil Cartridge (Exchange)

The Goldring Eroica LX is the entry point to Goldring's moving coil cartridge range, sitting below the Elite and the flagship Ethos SE. The "LX" designation denotes the low-output variant, producing 0.5mV and requiring a dedicated moving coil phono stage. Its high-output sibling, the Eroica HX, delivers 2.5mV for compatibility with standard moving magnet inputs. This is an exchange cartridge — customers return their existing Eroica LX body and receive a factory-fresh replacement at a reduced price.

Construction

The Eroica LX uses hand-wound coils on a pure iron armature within an advanced magnetic circuit employing neodymium rare-earth permanent magnets. The body is moulded from Pocan, a glass-reinforced polyester chosen for its rigidity and low mass — the complete cartridge weighs just 5.2g (6.6g with fixings). Each unit is hand-built with individual azimuth and compliance adjustment before leaving the factory.

Stylus

The Eroica LX is fitted with a Gyger II diamond stylus, a fine-line profile designed for extended, detailed contact with the groove wall. The equivalent tip mass is 0.35mg, contributing to the cartridge's trackability figure of 85µm at 315Hz. The stylus is not user-replaceable; Goldring offer a re-tipping service when the diamond reaches the end of its useful life.

Performance

Sensitivity is rated at 0.5mV ±1dB at 5cm/s lateral velocity (1kHz), with a frequency response of 20Hz–20kHz ±3dB and an extended frequency range reaching 10Hz–50kHz. Channel separation is specified at 25dB minimum at 1kHz with channel balance within 1dB. Recommended tracking force is 1.75g nominal, with an acceptable range of 1.5–2.0g. The cartridge presents an internal resistance of 8Ω and internal inductance of 12µH, with a recommended load resistance of 100Ω.
