Description

The Goldring E3 is the third step in the four-model E Series range of moving magnet cartridges, sitting between the entry-level E2 and the flagship E4. Designed for use with budget to mid-priced turntables, it combines Goldring's Magnetic Duplex Technology with a bonded elliptical stylus to extract more detail from the groove.

Magnetic Duplex Technology

All E Series cartridges use Goldring's Magnetic Duplex Technology, a dual-magnet generator assembly with geometry matched to that of the original recording cutting head. This symmetrical arrangement improves stereo channel separation, while the pre-set stylus-to-record angles are factory-adjusted to eliminate the need for horizontal tracking alignment during installation.

Stylus and Tracking

The E3 is fitted with a bonded elliptical stylus on an aluminium cantilever. Tracking force is specified at 1.75 to 2.25 g with a nominal setting of 2 g, and the cartridge is rated to track at 70 µm. The cartridge is compatible with tonearms of 10 to 30 g effective mass and fits any standard half-inch headshell mount.

Output and Loading

The E3 produces a 3.5 mV output at 5 cm/s lateral velocity, placing it in the typical range for moving magnet cartridges and compatible with the vast majority of integrated or phono stage MM inputs set to 47 kΩ loading. Load capacitance should be set to 150 pF nominal (100–200 pF is the accepted range), which includes the combined capacitance of the tonearm cable and phono stage input. Channel separation is specified at a minimum of 20 dB at 1 kHz.
