Goldring D06 Replacement Stylus (for 1006)

The Goldring D06 is the official replacement stylus assembly for the Goldring 1006, the entry-level model in the manufacturer's hand-built 1000 series of moving magnet cartridges. Replacing the stylus restores the cartridge to its original factory specification when the original tip has worn, allowing continued service of the cartridge body without the cost of full replacement. The 1006 occupies the foot of the 1000 series range — which extends through the 1012GX and 1022GX to the flagship 1042 — sitting a clear step above the entry-level E series in both construction and stylus sophistication.

Stylus Design

The D06 features an elliptical diamond tip mounted on a low-mass cantilever. An elliptical profile presents two contact radii to the groove wall — a smaller radius in the direction of travel, and a larger radius laterally — allowing it to trace the fine modulations of high-frequency groove information more accurately than a spherical tip.

The cantilever assembly is stabilised by a gold-plated nickel tie-bar welded to the magnet, which simultaneously provides an earth path for static charge build-up on the vinyl surface. The stylus is retained in a butyl rubber polymer suspension, selected for its damping characteristics throughout the audio band. Equivalent tip mass is 0.45 mg.

Generator & Body

The 1006 cartridge body that houses the D06 stylus is built around an ultra-low-mass, micro-miniature Alnico V magnet with finely etched mu-metal pole pieces and four thousand turns per coil. The mu-metal construction provides integral shielding against magnetic interference. The one-piece body is moulded from Pocan — a glass-reinforced polyester chosen for its rigidity and acoustic inertness — and features a user-replaceable stylus carrier with a locating pin for precise, repeatable fitting.

Compatibility

The D06 stylus is designed specifically for the current Goldring 1006 cartridge body and generator. It is a direct drop-in replacement and does not require any adjustment to the cartridge body. While the 1000 series body is shared across several models in the range, each model's stylus assembly is unique to its specification — the D06 is matched to the 1006 generator only and is not interchangeable with styli from other models in the range.
