The Focal Aria SR900 is the dedicated surround loudspeaker in Focal's Aria 900 range, engineered to deliver the diffuse, enveloping rear and side channel sound that cinema soundtracks demand. Rather than firing directly at the listener, the SR900 uses a bipolar configuration that radiates sound from two angled baffles at once, filling the room with a broad, immersive surround field that is hard to localise.
Bipolar Surround Design
The SR900 carries two complete 2-way driver arrays mounted on a pair of angled front baffles. This bipolar arrangement creates a wide, wrap-around soundstage that blends seamlessly with the front speakers in a Focal Aria home cinema system. The result is the spacious, ambient surround presentation favoured for film, with effects that move convincingly around the room.
Driver Technology
Each baffle pairs a 5-inch (13cm) Flax sandwich cone woofer with a 1-inch (25mm) aluminium/magnesium TNF inverted dome tweeter. The Flax cone, made from woven flax fibre between two thin layers of glass, combines low mass with high rigidity and natural damping for a neutral midrange and tuneful bass. The TNF tweeter, derived from Focal's beryllium designs, uses a Poron memory foam surround that reduces distortion through the ear's most sensitive range for a clear, refined treble.
Cabinet and Installation
The slimline cabinet is finished in Black Satin, complementing the Aria 900 family. Focal's Polyfix mounting system is included, making it straightforward to wall-mount the SR900 at the side or rear of the room or place it on a stand. A magnetic fabric grille allows discreet integration when the drivers are not on display.
Performance
With a sensitivity of 90dB (2.83V/1m) and a nominal impedance of 8 Ohms, the SR900 partners easily with the full range of AV receivers, its 3.6 Ohm minimum impedance posing no difficulty for most amplifiers. The recommended power range of 25 to 120 watts suits the majority of home cinema set-ups. Frequency response spans 85Hz to 28kHz (±3dB), extending to 67Hz at the -6dB point.
