The Focal Aria Evo X N4 is the flagship model in the Aria Evo X floorstanding range, sitting at the top of the collection above the smaller N2 and N3 towers. It represents Focal's evolution of the acclaimed Aria 900 series, refining the acoustic performance through updated driver materials and an improved cabinet design whilst retaining the accessible, high-value positioning that made its predecessor a long-standing bestseller.
Three-Way Driver Architecture
The N4 employs a three-way configuration built around three proprietary Focal driver technologies. At the top sits a 25mm aluminium/magnesium TAM inverted dome tweeter, formed into an 'M' shaped profile that controls the break-up modes of the dome and extends clean high-frequency reproduction to 30kHz. Below it, a 16.5cm (6.5-inch) midrange driver carries a Flax cone, Focal's patented sandwich construction using French flax fibre compressed between two glass-fibre skins. The resulting cone is simultaneously lightweight, rigid, and inherently damped, qualities that allow it to reproduce the midrange with low colouration and a natural tonal character. The bass section features two 21cm (8-inch) Flax-cone woofers operating in a bass-reflex cabinet tuned for extended low-frequency reach and controlled bass energy.
Cabinet and Finish
The N4 cabinet is a tall, slim-profile floorstanding enclosure that sits on an integrated aluminium alloy base providing both stability and vibration isolation. The front baffle is finished in a leather-effect material, giving a tactile contrast to the high-gloss lacquer used on the cabinet sides. The Moss Green High Gloss finish combines a deeply polished green lacquer on the cabinet sides with the characteristic golden-tan Flax driver cones for a distinctive, understated visual presentation. All variants are supplied with a removable fabric grille for those who prefer a cleaner front-facing appearance.
Patented TMD Surrounds
Focal's Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) surround technology addresses a fundamental challenge in dynamic driver design: the surround system that returns the cone to its rest position can introduce colouration at certain frequencies if not carefully controlled. The TMD geometry adds finely positioned toroidal weights to the surround, acting as a mechanical filter that reduces the transmission of resonances and mitigates unwanted harmonic distortion across the midrange and bass.
System Compatibility
With a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of 92.5dB (2.83V/1m), the N4 is well suited to a wide range of stereo amplifiers from modest integrated units upward, and Focal specifies a power handling range of 40 to 350 watts to reflect this versatility. The low-frequency extension reaches 37Hz, which is sufficient for full-range music reproduction without a subwoofer in most listening rooms.
