The Aria Evo X N1 sits at the entry point of Focal's Aria Evo X range, a collection of loudspeakers designed to bring the French company's signature engineering to a wider audience. Above the Aria Evo X N1 in the range sit the N2 and N3 standmount and floorstanding models, with the N1 targeting listeners who need high-quality stereo sound in small to medium-sized rooms.
Flax Woofer Technology
The 6.5-inch (165 mm) bass/midrange driver uses a cone formed from a sandwich of glass fibre and natural flax fibres. Flax is notably light yet rigid, giving the cone a low moving mass for fast transient response and a high internal damping coefficient to suppress resonance. The TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) surround, derived from Focal's higher-range development, acts as a secondary damper, absorbing energy at the point where the cone meets the suspension and further reducing unwanted colouration.
Inverted Dome Tweeter
Focal's TAM (Tuned Aluminium/Magnesium) tweeter uses an M-shaped inverted dome made from an aluminium/magnesium alloy. Inverting the dome moves the tweeter's first break-up mode significantly higher in frequency, well above the audible band, so the N1 delivers clean, detailed high frequencies without metallic hardness. The tweeter is housed in an isolated, decoupled rear chamber to minimise unwanted cabinet resonances reaching the high-frequency unit.
Cabinet Design
The ultra-rigid MDF cabinet features curved side panels with a front-facing bass reflex port, allowing the N1 to be placed closer to a rear wall than a rear-ported design without compromising bass extension. The magnetically fixed grille attaches without pins, keeping the front baffle clean when the grille is removed. A single pair of high-quality binding posts on the rear accepts bare wire, spades, or banana plugs.
