The Focal Aria Evo X CC is the dedicated centre channel speaker in the Aria Evo X range, designed as a matching companion to the Aria Evo X floorstanding and bookshelf models for home cinema installations. Launched in January 2024, the Aria Evo X line succeeds the long-running Aria 900 series that Focal introduced in 2013, carrying forward its core technologies in a refined and updated form.
Flax Cone Technology
At the heart of the Aria Evo X CC are two 6.5-inch (16.5cm) bass/midrange drivers built around Focal's patented Flax cone. The Flax membrane is a sandwich construction composed of a layer of French flax fibre enclosed between two thin layers of glass fibre. This combination delivers a cone that is light, rigid, and well-damped, resulting in natural reproduction that brings clarity and definition to voices. The Flax cone was first introduced by Focal in 2013 and is manufactured at the Focal workshops in Saint-Etienne, France.
TAM Tweeter
The high-frequency driver is an Aluminium/Magnesium 'M'-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter, the successor to Focal's earlier TNF tweeter. The M-shaped dome profile extends the frequency response up to 30kHz and provides smoother high-frequency dispersion. The tweeter is mounted in a central position between the two bass/midrange drivers, ensuring the most linear horizontal dispersion across the listening area, which is critical for a centre channel that must deliver clear dialogue to listeners spread across the width of a room.
TMD Surround
The bass/midrange surround incorporates Focal's Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology. An additional mass oscillates in opposition to the surround's resonance frequency, controlling resonance and reducing distortion in the midrange. The result is improved definition and clarity through the voice frequencies, which are the Aria Evo X CC's primary responsibility in a multi-channel system.
Cabinet and Bass Loading
The Aria Evo X CC uses a bass-reflex enclosure with a double rear port, which limits compression and fully liberates the low-frequency output. The MDF cabinet is designed for high rigidity to minimise vibration and colouration. At 20 x 53.3 x 24.5cm (H x W x D), the cabinet is compact enough to sit horizontally below or above a television without obstructing the screen.
System Integration
The Aria Evo X CC is designed to match the timbral character of the Aria Evo X floorstanding and bookshelf speakers precisely, ensuring coherence and uniformity of sound across all channels. Combined with Aria Evo X floorstanding speakers, the Aria SR 900 surround speaker, and a Focal subwoofer, the Aria Evo X CC forms the foundation of a complete 5.1 home cinema system. The speaker is available in three finishes: Black High Gloss, Prime Walnut, and Moss Green High Gloss, each with a leather-effect front panel.
