Rumours is the eleventh studio album by Fleetwood Mac, released on 4 February 1977 by Warner Bros. Records. It was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut, and was recorded largely in California during 1976 while the five members were working through the collapse of their own relationships, a tension that runs straight through the writing.
The album gave Fleetwood Mac their first number one on the UK Albums Chart and also topped the US Billboard 200. It won Album of the Year at the 1978 Grammy Awards, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003, and was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017. As of February 2023 it had sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, and Rolling Stone placed it seventh in its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The Recording
Sessions began at the Record Plant in Sausalito, California in February 1976, with further work at Wally Heider Recording Studios in Hollywood, Criteria Recording Studios in Miami and Davlen Sound Studios in North Hollywood. Songbird was recorded live at Zellerbach Auditorium, U.C. Berkeley in March 1976. Mixing was completed at Sound City in Van Nuys and the Record Plant in Los Angeles. All four singles, Go Your Own Way, Dreams, Don't Stop and You Make Loving Fun, reached the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100, with Dreams going to number one.
This Pressing
This is the 2025 single LP reissue, issued by Reprise Records and Warner Records under catalogue number R1 3010 and released on 21 March 2025. It carries the standard eleven track running order across two sides and is cut in stereo. The sleeve reproduces the original 1977 artwork, and the inner sleeve carries the full lyrics, credits and band photography.
