Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits (LP) Vinyl

Greatest Hits is the compilation album released by Fleetwood Mac on 21 November 1988 through Warner Bros. Records, gathering the band's most successful singles from the period of their greatest commercial success, the mid 1970s to the late 1980s. It should not be confused with the 1971 album of the same title, which covers the earlier Peter Green line-up and shares no tracks with this collection. Everything here is drawn from the era that began when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the group in 1975.

The Album

The selection spans five studio albums, taking "Rhiannon" and "Say You Love Me" from Fleetwood Mac, "Don't Stop", "Go Your Own Way" and "Dreams" from Rumours, "Tusk" and "Sara" from Tusk, "Hold Me" and "Gypsy" from Mirage, and "Everywhere" and "Little Lies" from Tango in the Night. Two tracks were previously unreleased at the time: "As Long as You Follow", issued as a single to promote the album in December 1988, and "No Questions Asked". Both were the first Fleetwood Mac recordings to feature Rick Vito and Billy Burnette, who had joined the band in 1987. Vito described the compilation as "a presentation of the new band" and "the ushering in of a new era".

Reception

The album reached number three on the UK Albums Chart on release and number 13 on the US Billboard 200, and it has sold steadily in the years since, returning to the UK chart several times. It has been certified triple platinum in the United Kingdom for shipments of 900,000 copies, and eight times platinum in the United States for shipments of eight million.

This Pressing

This is the Warner Records reissue pressed for Europe in 2020, catalogue number 081227959357. It is a single black vinyl LP carrying the thirteen track running order used on the vinyl edition, with the band photograph and full track listing on the reverse of the sleeve. A printed inner sleeve holds the liner notes, credits and photographs. The record was mastered at Precision Lacquer and pressed by Record Industry in the Netherlands.
