FiiO SP3 Active Desktop Speakers Black (Pair)

The SP3 is FiiO's compact high fidelity active desktop speaker system, sitting alongside the Bluetooth-equipped SP3 BT in the company's desktop speaker line. It pairs a fully active, amplified two-way design with a die-cast metal cabinet to deliver near-field stereo sound from a footprint small enough to flank a monitor or sit either side of a desktop source.

Drivers and Cabinet

Each speaker uses a 3.5-inch carbon fibre mid-woofer paired with a 1-inch silk dome tweeter. The carbon fibre cone is chosen for its stiffness and light weight, giving quick transient response and low distortion, while the silk dome tweeter, fitted with a copper-clad aluminium voice coil, extends the treble response up to 35kHz. The cabinet is made from die-cast aluminium-magnesium alloy with thick, uniform walls to suppress resonance, and uses an S-shaped reflex port to extend low-frequency output. Total internal volume is just 2.35 litres per speaker.

Amplification

The SP3 is fully active, with each driver run by its own amplifier channel. Two Texas Instruments TPA3118 Class D amplifier chips provide four channels of power: 30W to each woofer and 10W to each tweeter, for a total of 80W across the pair. The active crossover splits the signal at 3.4kHz using a second-order filter, removing the losses associated with a passive crossover and allowing each amplifier to be matched to its driver.

Connectivity and Controls

Inputs are a stereo RCA line input and a 3.5mm AUX input, with a supplied RCA-to-3.5mm cable and an interconnect cable to link the primary and secondary speakers. Rear controls cover volume, input selection, RGB lighting and a bass adjustment with a range from -8dB to 0dB to suit placement close to a wall or desk. Silicone rubber bases are included in 0 degree and 7 degree options, the angled set tilting the speakers slightly upward toward the listener while damping desk-borne vibration.
