The FiiO JD1 is an entry-level in-ear monitor developed in partnership with Jade Audio, FiiO's sister brand dedicated to accessible, high-value audio products. Positioned as an affordable introduction to the world of IEMs, the JD1 delivers a warm, bass-forward tuning that suits everyday listening straight out of a smartphone or portable player.
At its core sits a single 10mm liquid crystal polymer (LCP) dynamic driver. LCP diaphragms are prized for their low mass and high rigidity, enabling the driver to remain accurate at higher frequencies while also producing plentiful, impactful bass. FiiO pairs this driver with their asymmetrical internal and external magnetic circuit design, the same technology used in more expensive models including the FT3, which increases magnetic flux density around the voice coil for improved transient response and overall drive.
The shell is compact and ergonomically shaped, constructed from a semi-transparent plastic compound with obsidian-black faceplates hand-polished in zinc alloy. The shell is lightweight at approximately 7 g per unit, making for extended wearing comfort even during long commutes or travel. Passive isolation is effective for the price, aided by the close-fitting nozzle and included silicone ear tips in three sizes.
Cable connection uses the universal 0.78 mm 2-pin standard, allowing the supplied cable to be swapped for aftermarket alternatives. The stock cable features an in-line microphone with playback controls and a 3.5 mm gold-plated plug. An optional Type-C cable variant (the JD1 TC) integrates a USB DAC with five preset equalisers and volume adjustment, making it compatible with modern smartphones that lack a 3.5 mm output. In the Black colourway, the ear shells feature a semi-transparent housing with an obsidian faceplate; the Silver variant uses fully transparent shells with a silver faceplate.
Sound character is warm and engaging with an emphasis on bass weight and body. Sub-bass extension is confident and the mid-bass produces a full, physical impact well suited to popular music, hip-hop, and electronic genres. Treble is smooth and avoids sibilance. The midrange, while slightly recessed and coloured by the bass emphasis, remains intelligible and enjoyable for casual listening. The JD1 is easy to drive from any device and requires no dedicated amplifier.
