The FiiO FD15 is the successor to the acclaimed FD5 and occupies the flagship position in FiiO's FD series of single dynamic driver in-ear monitors. Drawing on FiiO's extensive experience in dynamic driver engineering, the FD15 introduces a suite of new technologies centred on a redesigned magnalium diaphragm driver and a patented bass enhancement structure, delivering what FiiO describes as a more spacious, natural, and transparent sound than its predecessor.
Magnalium Diaphragm DLC Dynamic Driver
At the heart of the FD15 is a 13.8mm dynamic driver combining a magnalium (magnesium-aluminium alloy) diaphragm with a diamond-like carbon (DLC) gasket in a W-shaped profile. The W-shaped gasket increases the effective vibrating area by approximately 30% compared to a conventional flat diaphragm of the same diameter, allowing the driver to store and release more acoustic energy. The voice coil is 1.38 times longer than that of the FD5, resulting in a claimed 70% increase in driving power. A 1.5T Tesla magnet provides a powerful, focused magnetic field to control driver movement with precision.
F.T.B.S. Tesla Valve Bass Enhancement
The FD15 incorporates FiiO's patented F.T.B.S. (FiiO Tesla Bass System) acoustic design. A valvular conduit runs beneath the faceplate and connects to three small vent holes at the rear of the shell. This Tesla valve structure allows external air to flow freely inward while restricting outward flow, significantly extending bass depth without introducing the driver flex or pressure build-up associated with fully closed designs. The FD15 is a vented closed-back design with a frontal acoustic prism.
316L Stainless Steel Construction
The shell is machined from 316L medical-grade stainless steel via a powder metallurgy sintering process. Each unit is hand-polished and finished with PVD electroplating for a durable, mirror-like surface. The Black variant receives a PVD dark coating giving it the Obsidian Black appearance. The nozzle axis has been adjusted by 7.6 degrees relative to the FD5 to improve ergonomics and reduce the fit issues reported by some FD5 users. Two interchangeable sound tubes are included to allow subtle tonal adjustments.
Cable and Connectivity
The FD15 is supplied with a premium Furukawa monocrystalline silver and Furukawa monocrystalline silver-plated copper braided cable. The cable comprises four strands, each made up of 100 copper wires and 20 silver-plated wires, for a total of 480 conductors. The detachable MMCX connector system includes both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced swappable terminations, providing flexibility across a wide range of sources. The FD15 carries Hi-Res Audio certification.
