Clean Power for Your FiiO Desktop Stack
The FiiO Darkside Pro (model PL80) is a fully regulated linear power supply designed to replace the standard switching-mode wall adapters supplied with FiiO desktop audio devices. By eliminating the high-frequency switching noise inherent to conventional power adaptors, it delivers measurably cleaner DC power to your DAC, amplifier, or streamer, particularly beneficial in R2R DAC circuits and sensitive analogue stages.
Audiophile-Grade Transformer and Regulation
At the heart of the Darkside Pro sits a 75W toroidal transformer wound with grain-oriented silicon steel, chosen for its low magnetic leakage and minimal mechanical vibration. The regulation circuit uses dual IRFZ34NPBF MOSFETs running in parallel, a fully discrete output stage rather than an integrated regulator chip, supplemented by premium ELNA, Rubycon, and WIMA filter capacitors. Output ripple is specified at no more than 17µVrms A-weighted at 12V, and no more than 30µVrms at 15V, considerably lower than a typical switching adaptor.
Switchable Output Voltage
A relay-controlled voltage selector allows the Darkside Pro to supply either 12V or 15V DC at up to 3A, making it compatible with a wide range of FiiO products without requiring a separate unit for each device. Output is delivered via a GX16-2 aviation-grade locking socket, which provides a positive mechanical connection and is rated for continuous high-current use.
Wide Compatibility
Compatible devices include the K11, K11 R2R, K13 R2R, K15, K19, R9, R7, TT13, K5 Pro series, K7 series, and Q7. FiiO portable players may also be powered via a Type-C adapter (sold separately).
Build Quality and Practical Considerations
The Darkside Pro weighs approximately 2,200g, reflecting the genuine toroidal transformer inside rather than ballast. The black anodised aluminium chassis matches the aesthetic of FiiO's current desktop range. As with all linear power supplies, the unit generates heat during operation; adequate ventilation and side-by-side placement (rather than stacking) is recommended. An internal self-resetting fuse protects against overcurrent events. Input voltage is switchable between 100-120V and 220-240V, covering UK mains.
