The FiiO BR15 R2R sits near the top of FiiO's desktop Bluetooth receiver range, combining the company's proprietary 24-bit R2R ladder DAC architecture with Qualcomm's latest wireless platform to create an affordable, feature-rich streaming hub for existing hi-fi systems.
R2R DAC Architecture
At the core of the BR15 R2R is FiiO's own 24-bit R2R resistor array, built from 192 precision thin-film resistors arranged across four channels. Each resistor is matched to 0.1% tolerance with an ultra-low temperature drift of 3ppm, ensuring the ladder network maintains consistent linearity across listening sessions. Unlike delta-sigma designs that rely on high-speed modulation, the R2R architecture converts digital bits directly through a fixed resistor ladder, resulting in a more direct signal path that many listeners describe as natural and organic in character.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Wireless reception is handled by the Qualcomm QCC5181 chip, supporting SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Lossless, and LDAC codecs. Multiple devices can be paired simultaneously, with quick switching between sources via the front panel or included remote. Latency is sufficiently low for video streaming without perceived lip-sync issues.
Inputs and Outputs
Beyond Bluetooth, the BR15 R2R accepts digital audio via USB-C (front and rear), coaxial, and optical inputs. On the output side, balanced XLR connectors sit alongside standard RCA line-level outputs, giving the receiver compatibility with a wide range of amplifiers and active speakers. Coaxial and optical ports can also function as outputs when Bluetooth or other inputs are active, enabling pass-through to connected equipment.
Controls and Display
The front panel features two illuminated aluminium knobs - one for menu navigation and input selection, the other for volume control - flanking a central oval OLED display. The RGB LED rings in each knob change colour according to the incoming bitrate, providing an at-a-glance indication of the audio format in use. A full-function infrared remote is included, covering all common transport and EQ functions without requiring access to the front panel.
Equalisation and DSP
A 10-band parametric equaliser is accessible through the FiiO Control app or the unit's built-in web interface, allowing precise frequency-specific adjustments. Genre-based EQ presets are also available and can be applied or bypassed using the remote. Oversampling can be set to off, 96kHz, 192kHz, or 384kHz, and the DSP output mode can be switched between D2P and 1-bit to suit personal preferences or downstream equipment.
Build and Finish
The chassis is CNC-machined from aluminium with a silver anodised finish, approximately 190mm square in footprint. The construction is lightweight for its size, with a closed top that suits both desktop and rack-adjacent placement. The BR15 R2R is available in black or silver and ships with a mains power lead, the full-function remote, and a short RCA interconnect.
