Based on J.K. Rowling’s original story and screenplay, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first in the Wizarding World prequel series, set 65 years before the events of Harry Potter. Directed by David Yates, the director behind the final four Harry Potter films, the film marks J.K. Rowling’s feature screenwriting debut.
The Story
In 1926 New York City, British magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) arrives with a magically expanded suitcase housing a remarkable collection of magical creatures. After a chance encounter with No-Maj baker Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) leads to several beasts escaping into the city, Newt is drawn into a dangerous conspiracy involving the shadowy Obscurial and a mysterious dark force threatening both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. Alongside former Auror Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and her Legilimens sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), Newt must recover his creatures before the New Salem Philanthropic Society and the Magical Congress of the USA close in.
