The DMP-A8 Gen 2 is EverSolo's second-generation DMP-A8, a combined network music streamer, digital-to-analogue converter and analogue preamplifier built around an 8.6-inch LCD touchscreen. It sits in the DMP-A8 Gen 2 series alongside the DMP-A8 Master Gen 2, and its 388mm wide-body chassis provides more space for the internal architecture.
Digital Conversion
Conversion is split across two devices, with the AK4191EQ handling digital processing and the AK4499EXEQ acting as the converter, so each stage of the signal path can be optimised separately. Playback reaches native DSD512 and PCM 768kHz/32bit, and supported formats include DSD, MQA, FLAC, APE and WAV. Signal handling is managed by the proprietary EOS audio engine, which bypasses Android sample rate conversion to keep a bit-perfect path, while the EverSolo AuralEngine multi-core USB audio processor handles high-resolution USB transmission.
Power Supply and Clocking
A dual power architecture separates the digital and analogue sections at source to reduce cross-circuit interference, with the linear supply reaching a 20 microvolt noise floor. Two ultra-low phase noise clocks support the 44.1kHz and 48kHz sampling families independently, stabilising the time base to limit jitter. Internal electrical isolation further separates the digital circuitry from noise carried in by connected equipment.
Analogue Output and Preamplifier
The preamplifier stage is fully balanced and uses OPA1612 operational amplifiers, with volume handled in the analogue domain by a high-precision R-2R resistor ladder rather than digital attenuation. Balanced XLR outputs deliver 4.2V and single-ended RCA outputs 2.1V, with measured THD+N of 0.000075% and dynamic range above 129dB on the balanced outputs. XLR and RCA analogue inputs are also provided with up to 10dB of gain, so an analogue source can be fed straight into the preamplifier. A dedicated subwoofer output offers a crossover point adjustable between 40Hz and 500Hz.
Connectivity
Digital inputs cover optical, coaxial, USB Type-B and HDMI ARC/eARC, so a television or projector can be routed through the system for lossless audio return. Digital outputs include AES/EBU on XLR, optical, coaxial, USB audio and IIS, the latter with eight configurable pin modes for compatibility with a wide range of external DACs. Networking runs over gigabit Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, or a dedicated SFP fibre port for an electrically isolated connection; SFP modules are purchased separately. Bluetooth 5.4 input is handled by a Qualcomm QCC3095 receiver module.
Streaming and Storage
Streaming services are integrated natively, among them TIDAL, Qobuz, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, HIGHRESAUDIO, IDAGIO, Presto Music, SoundCloud, TuneIn and Radio Paradise. Casting protocols include Spotify Connect Lossless, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, DLNA and Network Audio Adapter. Local libraries can be reached over SMB, NFS and WebDAV, and an M.2 NVMe slot on the underside takes a drive of up to 8TB without dismantling the unit. Library scanning handles up to 200,000 tracks in around two hours. The system runs on an octa-core processor with 8GB of DDR5 memory and 64GB of eMMC storage.
Room Correction and DSP
evotune PRO room correction analyses how sound behaves in the listening space, applying DRC-based modelling and FIR filtering to frequency, timing and spatial information rather than frequency response alone. Measurement can be taken with a USB measurement microphone or a smartphone microphone, with the former recommended for accuracy. A 20-band equaliser covers 3.51Hz to 20kHz, and audio can be upsampled by up to 16 times. System-wide fade in and fade out applies across local files, integrated services and third-party apps.
Chassis and Control
The chassis is machined from aerospace-grade aluminium, providing shielding as well as the finish. The 8.6-inch touchscreen carries a redesigned interface with VU meter and spectrum visualisations that respond to the music in real time. Control is available from the screen itself, from the EverSolo Control app across phone, tablet, web and television, or from the supplied dual-mode remote, which works over both Bluetooth and infrared. Wake-on-LAN allows the unit to be brought out of standby over a wired network connection.
