The Escape M1 Air sits within Escape’s compact streaming range as a universal add-on module that brings wireless hi-res audio to virtually any existing hi-fi system. Originally designed to slot into the Escape P9 portable speaker, it works equally well as a standalone streaming bridge, outputting to amplifiers, active speakers, or external DACs via its combined 3.5mm analogue and digital optical connection.
Streaming & Connectivity
The M1 Air supports an unusually wide range of streaming protocols for its price point. Chromecast built-in enables casting from any compatible app, while AirPlay 2 provides native Apple device integration including multi-room grouping. Roon Ready support (via the RAAT protocol) allows the M1 Air to appear as a Roon endpoint, and Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect offer direct control from their respective apps without routing audio through the phone. Bluetooth 5.0 covers wireless playback from any paired device, and Wi-Fi operates on dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac for stable high-resolution streaming.
Audio Performance
The internal DAC handles files up to 192kHz/24-bit resolution across lossless codecs including FLAC, APE and DSD. Analogue output voltage is adjustable between 1V (the default, optimised for the Escape P9) and 2V for driving standard hi-fi amplifiers, selectable via the Escape Remote app. THD + Noise is rated below 0.06% with a frequency response of 20Hz–20kHz.
Internet Radio & Podcasts
Built-in airable integration provides access to over 30,000 internet radio stations and 25,000 podcasts directly from the Escape Remote app, alongside support for BBC Sounds and TuneIn Radio.
Design & Setup
At just 89 × 45 × 18.9mm, the M1 Air is roughly the size of a matchbox and can be tucked behind equipment or attached to surfaces using the included Velcro strips. It draws power from a standard 5V/1A Micro USB connection. The box includes a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable and a toslink optical adapter for immediate connection to most systems. Setup takes approximately five minutes via the Escape Remote app (iOS and Android) or Google Home.
