The Epson EH-LS12000B is the flagship home cinema laser projector in Epson's UK range, sitting above the EH-LS11000W. Two engineering distinctions separate it from the EH-LS11000W: the VRX Cinema Lens and the UltraBlack contrast compensation filter. Together these raise the native contrast ratio from 1,800:1 to 5,000:1 and increase brightness from 2,500 to 2,700 lumens, making the EH-LS12000B the more capable choice for dedicated screening rooms where deep blacks and image uniformity are priorities.
4K PRO-UHD and 3LCD Laser Engine
The EH-LS12000B uses Epson's 4K PRO-UHD technology, employing a digitally controlled Precision Shift Glass Plate to deliver a full 3,840 × 2,160 pixel image from three 0.74-inch LCD chips with C2 Fine panels — one per primary colour. Both colour brightness and white brightness are rated at 2,700 lumens measured to IDMS15.4 (ISO 21118:2020), and the engine delivers up to 1.07 billion colours via 10-bit video processing. HDR support covers HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats, with a 16-step adjustable HDR tone curve to suit the specific characteristics of a given screen and room.
UltraBlack Contrast Filter
The defining engineering distinction between the EH-LS12000B and the EH-LS11000W is Epson's UltraBlack technology — a proprietary compensation filter that controls the polarisation of light within the projection path to suppress stray light in the signal. The result is a native contrast ratio of 5,000:1, compared to 1,800:1 on the EH-LS11000W without the filter. Both projectors share a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,500,000:1; the UltraBlack filter's benefit is in native contrast, delivering deeper blacks in dark scenes independently of the Dynamic Contrast laser dimming mechanism.
VRX Cinema Lens and Optics
The EH-LS12000B is fitted with Epson's VRX Cinema Lens, a proprietary precision glass construction designed for edge-to-edge focus uniformity. All three primary lens adjustments — zoom, focus, and lens shift — are motorised. Ten lens memory presets allow rapid switching between stored configurations for rooms where the projector serves multiple screen aspects or throw distances. Lens shift extends to ±96.3% vertically and ±47.1% horizontally across a 2.1× zoom range with a throw ratio of 1.35–2.84:1. A 100-inch image requires a throw distance of 3.0–6.4m, with screen sizes from 50 to 300 inches supported.
ZX Picture Processor and Image Processing
The Epson ZX Picture Processor handles real-time colour, contrast, and HDR processing alongside 4K Frame Interpolation and 4K Super Resolution. Scene Adaptive Gamma automatically adjusts picture quality based on scene information. The EH-LS12000B carries ISF certification for professional calibration and is Calman ready, allowing a calibrator to produce a verified accurate profile for the display.
Gaming and Connectivity
Both HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3, enabling 4K HDR signals at up to 120 frames per second. Input lag is below 20 milliseconds in game mode. One HDMI port supports ARC and eARC for simplified audio return. Additional connectivity includes two USB Type-A ports, a USB 2.0 Mini-B service port, RS-232C, wired Ethernet (100 Base-TX/10 Base-T), and a 12V trigger output for motorised screen automation. Control system integration is supported via Control4, Crestron, and AMX Device Discovery.
Laser Light Source
The laser array is rated for up to 20,000 hours across all output modes — Normal, Medium, and Eco — with instant on/off and no warm-up or cool-down period. Operating noise is 30 dB(A) at full output and 22 dB(A) in economy mode.
What the Press Says
"Despite occasional colour wobbles, this is another quality laser projector from Epson."
