Description

The Dorpo X3 is the entry-level model in the Dorpo 8K media player range, sitting below the X300 and flagship units in the Dorpo lineup. Developed by former OPPO Digital executives and distributed in Europe by Dorpo Digital EU (based in Chippenham, Wiltshire), the X3 is engineered for both single-screen and multi-screen installations, from a simple living room setup to a more complex networked AV environment. It is designed to suit anyone who wants to breathe new life into a legacy display or build a high-performance local media playback system.

Processor and Performance

At the heart of the X3 is Amlogic's S928X-K processor: a five-core chip manufactured on a 12nm process with 3.2 TOPS of computing power and a dedicated 8K GPU. Paired with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, the X3 handles true 8K hardware decoding and efficient multitasking without compromise. The processor supports Dolby and DTS dual audio decoding natively, ensuring that ultra-high-quality 8K video and audio are decoded in hardware rather than relying on software processing.

8K Picture Quality and HDR

The X3 outputs native 7680x4320 at 60Hz, delivering four times the pixel density of 4K on screens up to and beyond 100 inches. Beyond standard HDR10 and HLG, the X3 also supports HDR10+ (using dynamic metadata to optimise each scene for richer contrast and smoother gradients) and Dolby Vision (which delivers higher brightness, deeper blacks, and lifelike colours for a more immersive experience). Colour is reproduced at 12-bit depth across the BT.2020 wide colour gamut, which covers 75 percent of the visible colour gamut. The Dolby Vision VS12 commercial picture engine processes each frame in real time to preserve shadow detail and highlight accuracy regardless of the source dynamic range.

Precise frame rate matching is built in: alongside standard integer frame rates (24, 25, 30, 50, 60, and 120fps), the X3 also supports point-to-point output of 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94fps, eliminating the judder or pausing that arises when mismatched frame rates are interpolated by a display.

Audio

For high-fidelity audio output, the X3 integrates an AKM4432 high-performance standalone DAC, delivering ultra-low-noise analogue output via its 3.5mm stereo socket and optical output. The built-in power supply is a custom full-power design: there is no external power brick, removing a common source of noise from the signal path. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X HD MA certification means the X3 decodes and outputs lossless immersive audio natively, bringing cinematic 3D sound to a home theatre system.

Media Format Support

The X3's built-in dorpo Media Player supports all major 8K codecs, including H.265, AV1, VP9, AVS3, and AVS2, as well as Blu-ray disc images in BDMV and ISO formats. Practically every mainstream container format is supported: MKV, TS, M2TS, and MP4 among others. External drives connected via USB 3.0 are accessed directly from the FunplayUI 2.0 interface, making it straightforward to build and navigate a large local library.

Streaming and Smart Features

The X3 runs on a customised Android platform (FunplayUI 2.0), giving access to the full range of Android streaming applications: Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Plex, Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music, and more. FunplayUI 2.0 automatically scans and downloads video and audio metadata for locally stored content, presenting it in an organised library with clean artwork and UHD Blu-ray navigation. The dp SmartController app for iOS and Android enables full remote management of all dorpo devices on the local network, including smooth browsing and streaming of local files.

Connectivity and Design

Connectivity is comprehensive: HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Optical Audio, 3.5mm Stereo Output, RS232 Control, and Gigabit Ethernet are all present on the rear panel. Wireless networking uses Wi-Fi 6 (dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz) with a built-in high-gain antenna, alongside Bluetooth 5.2. The X3 is compact enough to mount behind a television, sit on an AV rack, or fit on a 19-inch rack shelf. Its chassis uses a one-piece black gloss specular finish with a frosted aluminium alloy top cover, and the curved edges add structural rigidity. The included RC05 Bluetooth remote features a motion-sensing backlit display, a built-in six-axis gyroscope for air mouse functionality, IR learning, dual-mode operation, and a scratch-resistant environmental protection finish.
