Desmond Dekker & The Aces - 007 Shanty Town [Purple] (LP) Vinyl

007 Shanty Town is the 1967 debut album from Desmond Dekker & The Aces, originally issued in the UK on Doctor Bird. It takes its title from the single that made Dekker Jamaican music's first international star, reaching number 14 on the UK chart. This Music On Vinyl reissue presents the album on 180 gram audiophile vinyl in a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies, pressed on purple coloured vinyl.

The Album

Dekker recorded many of his best known early songs with The Aces, the backing group made up of Wilson James and Easton Barrington Howard. The record catches the moment the ska of the mid 1960s slows and settles into rocksteady, with lyrics drawn from the calypso and mento habit of reporting on the events of the day: love, politics, the fifth anniversary of Jamaican independence, and gang warfare. It is where the story starts, before the international hits that followed with "Israelites" in 1968.

Pressing and Packaging

The album is presented as a single LP pressed on 180 gram purple coloured vinyl. The pressing is limited to 750 copies, each machine numbered on the rear sleeve. Released on 6 February 2026 by Music On Vinyl.
