The Denon DRA-900H sits at the top of Denon’s stereo receiver range, succeeding the DRA-800H and combining the brand’s heritage in two-channel amplification with the comprehensive connectivity features found in its AV receiver line. Where a traditional stereo amplifier focuses purely on analogue signal handling, the DRA-900H adds a full HDMI matrix with 8K support, a DAB+/FM tuner, and the HEOS multi-room streaming platform, making it one of the most versatile stereo components available.
Amplification
The DRA-900H delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, driven by a high-current, custom-designed discrete output amplifier stage. The discrete approach, eschewing integrated circuit output stages, gives the amplifier greater headroom and control over a wide range of loudspeaker loads, including low-sensitivity designs that benefit from higher current delivery. Bass, treble, and balance controls on the front panel allow for straightforward tonal adjustment, while independent Speaker A and Speaker B terminals enable two pairs of speakers to be connected and selected independently.
Connectivity
Six HDMI inputs cover the full breadth of modern source connections: three support 8K signals and three are rated for 4K. A single HDMI output provides eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), allowing a connected television to pass audio back to the DRA-900H for amplification without requiring a separate cable. HDCP 2.3 copy protection is supported throughout, and gaming-friendly features include 4K/120Hz pass-through, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and Quick Frame Transport (QFT) to minimise lag. HDR formats supported include Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dynamic HDR.
For analogue sources, there are two sets of RCA stereo inputs and a dedicated Moving Magnet phono input, allowing a turntable to be connected directly without an outboard phono stage. A single coaxial and a single optical digital input cater for CD players, DACs, and set-top boxes. An assignable RCA pre-output with main zone and Zone 2 outputs allows the DRA-900H to drive a power amplifier or a passive Zone 2 speaker pair in a second room.
Streaming and Radio
Denon’s HEOS platform is built in, enabling the DRA-900H to participate in a multi-room audio network of up to 32 HEOS-compatible devices. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are both fitted for network connectivity, and Bluetooth is included for direct device pairing. Apple AirPlay 2 allows playback from any Apple device or compatible streaming service. Streaming services supported via HEOS include Spotify, TIDAL, and BBC Sounds. The DRA-900H is compatible with Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant for voice control via the HEOS app.
A built-in DAB+ and FM tuner with 75-ohm antenna input provides access to broadcast radio without requiring a separate tuner. Internet radio is available through the network connection, significantly expanding the number of available stations.
Zone 2
The Zone 2 facility allows a secondary audio source to be routed to a separate room using the passive speaker outputs on the rear panel. Zone 2 can be independently selected from the front panel or remote control, making the DRA-900H a practical choice for modest multi-room audio setups without dedicated whole-home systems.
