The Denon AVC-X3900H sits in the upper tier of Denon's current X-Series AV amplifier range, positioned above the AVC-X3800H and offering 9.4-channel amplification with 11.4-channel processing. As an AVC (AV Amplifier, no tuner) model, it is the UK and European version of the flagship mid-range design, sharing its core architecture with the wider X-Series while adding the connectivity and audio format support expected at this price point.
Power and Amplification
Each of the nine power amplifier channels delivers 105 watts into 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz bandwidth at 0.08% THD in stereo configuration, rising to 135 watts into 6 ohms at 1 kHz in the same stereo mode. Denon's 70% Power Guarantee ensures that over 70% of the rated output is maintained across up to five channels simultaneously, helping to preserve dynamic impact as the system scales from stereo into full multichannel surround. The 11.4-channel processing capacity exceeds the nine amplified outputs, with the remaining channels available as pre-amplifier outputs for connection to external amplifiers.
Immersive Audio Formats
The AVC-X3900H decodes all major object-based and immersive audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, Auro-3D (with the Auro-Matic upmixing engine), IMAX Enhanced, and Sony 360 Reality Audio. Legacy stereo and multichannel content can be upmixed to the active speaker layout using Neural:X or Dolby Surround processing. Height channel configurations support a wide range of Dolby Atmos layouts, including 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1.4, and 9.1.4 arrangements depending on the available external amplification.
Connectivity
Six HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs (one with eARC) support 4K and 8K video pass-through and upscaling, with HDCP 2.3, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dynamic HDR all supported. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and AMD FreeSync Premium compatibility make the X3900H well-suited to use with current gaming consoles and displays. Analogue connectivity includes five stereo analogue inputs, a moving-magnet phono stage, two optical digital inputs, two coaxial digital inputs, and 11.4-channel pre-amplifier outputs. A front-panel USB input supports audio playback from storage devices, and a headphone output with 3.5 mm connector is provided for private listening.
Room Correction and System Management
The full Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room correction suite is installed as standard, including MultEQ XT32 measurement and correction, Dynamic EQ loudness compensation, Dynamic Volume level management, and the option to import Audyssey curves from the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app. The X3900H is also Dirac Live ready: the full Dirac Live suite is available as a paid upgrade from Dirac, offering an alternative approach to room measurement and correction for listeners who prefer it. Two subwoofer pre-outputs are provided as standard, with support for up to four independent subwoofer outputs for complex bass management configurations.
Streaming and Wireless
HEOS multi-room streaming is built in, enabling the X3900H to participate in a whole-home audio network alongside other HEOS-compatible devices. Supported streaming services and protocols include Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, TuneIn internet radio, Amazon Music, and TIDAL. Bluetooth connectivity enables direct pairing with smartphones and tablets. Wi-Fi is built in for wireless network connection, with a wired Ethernet port also available. Voice control is supported via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Josh.ai.
