The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars is the fifth studio album by David Bowie, originally released in June 1972 on RCA Records. Widely regarded as one of his finest works, this loose concept album follows the story of Ziggy Stardust — a fictional androgynous rock star who acts as a messenger for extraterrestrial beings. The album broke Bowie into the mainstream and stands as one of the defining records of the glam rock era.
The Album
Produced by Ken Scott and David Bowie, the album was recorded at Trident Studios in London with the Spiders from Mars: Mick Ronson on guitar and vocals, Trevor Bolder on bass, and Mick Woodmansey on drums. Drawing heavily from Marc Bolan’s glam rock while weaving in science fiction themes, the record presents eleven tracks across two sides. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a decadent, decaying future through Ziggy’s rise and eventual self-destruction.
