The DALI Sonik 7 is the mid-tier floorstanding speaker in DALI's Sonik series, which replaces the multi-award-winning Oberon range launched in 2018. Sitting between the compact Sonik 5 and the flagship Sonik 9, the Sonik 7 draws on engineering trickled down from DALI's premium KORE, EPIKORE, and EPICON platforms while maintaining an accessible price point. It is a 2.5-way bass reflex design built for medium-to-large rooms, equally at home in a stereo hi-fi system or as part of a multichannel home cinema setup.
Driver Technology
The Sonik 7 is equipped with two 7-inch bass/midrange drivers featuring DALI's proprietary Clarity Cone construction — a blend of paper and wood fibre that balances stiffness, lightness, and internal damping. The 7-inch diameter provides approximately 15% more radiating surface area than a conventional 6.5-inch driver, enabling greater acoustic output and deeper bass extension without increasing cabinet volume.
Each driver benefits from DALI's SMC Essential magnet system, a hybrid iron and Soft Magnetic Compound pole-piece design derived from the flagship EPICON range. SMC reduces flux variations in the magnetic gap, lowering third-order harmonic distortion for cleaner, more accurate midrange reproduction. A copper voice coil cap further minimises inductance, reducing harshness in the upper midrange.
Hybrid Tweeter System
The Sonik 7 features DALI's hybrid tweeter module, combining a 29mm ultra-light soft-dome tweeter with a 17 × 45mm planar magnetostatic tweeter. The dome handles the range from the 2,300 Hz crossover point up to 14,000 Hz, where the magnetostatic element takes over, extending high-frequency response to 30 kHz. This two-way approach to the treble range ensures wide dispersion and detailed, airy high frequencies without the harshness that can accompany a single tweeter pushed to its limits.
Cabinet & Port Design
The cabinet is constructed from CNC-machined MDF with rigid internal bracing and separate internal chambers for the bass drivers, improving timing accuracy and reducing internal resonance. DALI's Dual Flare bass reflex port is positioned at the rear, directly behind each woofer. The port's convex geometry minimises air turbulence at higher output levels, reducing port noise. The speaker sits on four aluminium feet fitted with interchangeable spikes or rubber pads, allowing optimisation for different flooring types. A magnetically attached front grille is included.
Connectivity & Setup
The Sonik 7 uses a single pair of high-quality binding posts, accepting bare wire, banana plugs, or spade connectors. It is not bi-wireable. DALI recommends amplification between 30 and 180 watts per channel into 6 ohms. The speaker is not demanding regarding amplification and pairs well with a wide range of hi-fi integrated amplifiers and AV receivers.
