The DALI Sonik 3 is the larger of two compact bookshelf speakers in DALI’s Sonik series — a seven-model range launched in 2026 that brings engineering developed for the flagship EPIKORE and EPICON platforms to a more accessible price point. Where the smaller Sonik 1 pairs a 5¼-inch woofer with the same tweeter, the Sonik 3 steps up to a 7-inch driver in a correspondingly larger cabinet, extending bass reach and increasing headroom for medium-sized rooms. Above the Sonik 3 in the range sit three floorstanding models (Sonik 5, 7, and 9) and two home-cinema-specific designs (Sonik On-Wall and Sonik Cinema).
Driver Technology
The Sonik 3 uses DALI’s proprietary Clarity Cone™ woofer — a paper and wood-fibre composite that reduces colouration while preserving an articulate, detailed midrange. At 7 inches, it is the same driver diameter used in the larger floorstanding models, giving the Sonik 3 a bass extension down to 47 Hz (±3 dB) and a maximum sound pressure level of 108 dB.
The 29 mm soft dome tweeter uses an ultra-light woven fabric diaphragm mounted in an aluminium faceplate. This lightweight construction allows the tweeter to reproduce fine high-frequency detail up to 26 kHz with low distortion and wide dispersion.
SMC Essential Magnet System
Central to the Sonik range’s performance is the SMC Essential magnet system, derived from DALI’s EPICON platform. The motor structure combines a ferrite ring magnet with a hybrid iron and SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) pole piece. SMC is a non-conducting, non-laminated magnetic material that significantly reduces hysteresis and eddy currents in the motor system. The practical result is lower third-order harmonic distortion, which translates to a cleaner, more relaxed midrange presentation — particularly noticeable on vocals and acoustic instruments.
Cabinet & Acoustic Design
The cabinet is a 2-way bass reflex design with a rear-firing port tuned to 46 Hz. DALI use CNC-machined MDF with rigid internal bracing to control panel resonance, and a dual-flare port geometry to minimise turbulence noise at higher output levels. The Sonik 3 measures 350 × 200 × 306 mm (H × W × D) and weighs 6.5 kg per speaker.
A magnetic grille is included and fitted from the factory. The grille attaches without clips or pegs — it can be removed by pulling gently from the top edge and reattached by bringing it close to the front baffle until the magnets engage.
Placement & Setup
The Sonik 3 is designed for placement on stands, shelves, or within furniture. DALI’s Wide Dispersion Sound Design Principle means the speakers should be positioned parallel with the rear wall rather than toed in towards the listening position — the wide dispersion pattern fills the room naturally without requiring precise aim. Rubber feet are included for shelf or stand placement. DALI recommend a running-in period of up to 100 hours before the speakers reach their full performance.
Connection is via a single pair of binding-post terminals on the rear panel, accepting bare wire, spade connectors, or banana plugs.
