The DALI Opticon Vokal MK2 is the dedicated centre channel speaker in DALI's Opticon MK2 series, sitting above the Oberon Vokal and below the Rubicon LCR in the brand's home cinema hierarchy. Designed in Denmark, the Vokal MK2 shares the same driver and crossover technologies as its Opticon MK2 siblings, ensuring seamless tonal integration across all channels in a full surround system.
Hybrid Tweeter Module
The Opticon Vokal MK2 uses DALI's hybrid tweeter module, which combines a 29mm soft dome tweeter with a custom 17 x 45mm planar element. The soft dome handles the primary high-frequency range, while the ultra-lightweight planar diaphragm extends response to 30kHz, adding the fine detail and air that a dome alone cannot reproduce at very high frequencies. The tweeter faceplate is a die-cast aluminium component derived from DALI's higher-end Callisto active series.
Wood Fibre Cone & SMC Motor
The single 6.5-inch mid/bass driver uses a diaphragm made from a composite of fine paper pulp and reinforced wood fibre. This material combination is chosen for its low mass and high internal damping, which helps to minimise break-up resonance across the operating band. The driver is powered by DALI's patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) magnet motor system. SMC uses a powdered iron compound rather than conventional laminated steel, which greatly reduces hysteresis and eddy currents in the magnetic circuit. The practical result is a significant reduction in third-order harmonic distortion, contributing to a cleaner, more relaxed midrange.
Centre Channel Voicing
The Vokal MK2 uses a 2½-way crossover topology with crossover points at 2,400 Hz and 14,000 Hz, optimised specifically for the demands of centre channel playback. Dialogue clarity and vocal intelligibility are the primary design targets, and the 2½-way configuration allows the mid/bass driver to handle the critical vocal frequencies without interference from a dedicated midrange crossover point. The 25mm-thick front baffle and additional internal bracing make the cabinet extremely rigid, virtually eliminating panel resonance that could colour or smear vocal reproduction.
Flexible Placement
Front-facing twin letterbox reflex ports allow the Vokal MK2 to be placed close to a rear wall or directly beneath a screen without the bass port loading issues that affect rear-ported centre speakers. This is a practical advantage in home cinema installations where the centre speaker often sits in a confined space on a media unit or shelf. The compact 435 x 201 x 312mm (W x H x D) enclosure and 9.2kg weight keep placement options open.
