DALI Opticon 6 MK2 Floorstanding Speakers Tobacco (Pair)

The DALI Opticon 6 MK2 sits at the heart of DALI’s Opticon MK2 range as a slim, floor-standing loudspeaker that bridges the gap between the entry-level Oberon series and the high-end Rubicon line. It is the entry point in the Opticon MK2 series for DALI’s hybrid tweeter module — a technology otherwise reserved for the larger Opticon 8 MK2 and the Rubicon range — making it the most affordable DALI floorstander to offer this level of high-frequency refinement.

Hybrid Tweeter Module

The defining feature of the Opticon 6 MK2 is its hybrid tweeter module, which combines a 29 mm soft dome tweeter with a 17 × 45 mm ultra-lightweight ribbon tweeter. The crossover between the two is set at 14,000 Hz: below this point the dome handles the treble, and above it the ribbon takes over. The ribbon’s low mass allows it to respond to transients with exceptional speed, extending the frequency response to 30,000 Hz and delivering wide, even dispersion at the highest frequencies where a dome alone would begin to beam.

SMC Magnet Motor & Wood Fibre Cones

The two 6.5-inch bass/midrange drivers use DALI’s patented Soft Magnetic Compound (SMC) magnet motor system. SMC reduces the mechanical hysteresis and eddy currents that conventional iron pole pieces generate, lowering electro-acoustic distortion and improving detail retrieval at low listening levels. The driver cones are made from a mixture of paper pulp and wood fibre, a material chosen for its combination of low mass, high stiffness, and strong internal damping — properties that help the cone move as a rigid piston across its operating bandwidth.

Cabinet & Bass Loading

The cabinet features a 25 mm thick front baffle with additional internal bracing to minimise panel resonance. Bass loading is provided by a rear-firing reflex port with DALI’s dual-flare profile, designed to reduce port turbulence and audible chuffing at high output levels. The result is a rated frequency response extending down to 49 Hz (±3 dB), with a maximum SPL of 110 dB.

Crossover

The Opticon 6 MK2 operates as a 2½ + ½-way design with crossover points at 800 Hz, 2,200 Hz, and 14,000 Hz. The lower crossover splits the workload between the two bass/midrange drivers in a classic 2.5-way arrangement, while the upper crossover handles the handoff from dome tweeter to ribbon.
