The DALI Opticon 2 MK2 sits in the middle of DALI's Opticon MK2 range, positioned above the compact Opticon 1 MK2 and below the larger Opticon 6 MK2 floorstander. As a thoroughgoing second-generation redesign, the MK2 brings a new tweeter, revised driver, and refined cabinet construction to deliver a step up in performance from the original Opticon 2.
Driver Technology
The Opticon 2 MK2 pairs a 6.5-inch wood fibre cone woofer with a 29mm soft dome tweeter — a step up from the 28mm unit in the original Opticon 2, delivering lower distortion, higher power handling, and extended low-frequency response. The woofer uses DALI’s patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) magnet system, which reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents in the motor assembly, resulting in a cleaner, more relaxed midrange with minimal third-order distortion.
Cabinet & Port Design
The cabinet features a 25mm-thick front baffle with extra internal bracing, creating an extremely rigid enclosure that virtually eliminates panel resonance. Bass loading is handled by a rear-firing reflex port with DALI’s dual-flare design, shaped to minimise turbulence at both the entry and exit of the port — an approach rooted in aerodynamic principles that allows the port to breathe more freely at higher excursions.
Craftsmanship
Every Opticon 2 MK2 is hand-assembled and tested in Denmark by individual technicians. Pairs are built using matched components for acoustic and visual consistency, a level of quality control that runs throughout the Opticon MK2 range.
