The DALI Opticon 1 MK2 is the most compact speaker in DALI's Opticon MK2 range, sitting below the Opticon 2 MK2 and the floorstanding Opticon 6 and Opticon 8 models. Despite its size, the Opticon 1 MK2 delivers a performance that belies its compact enclosure, drawing on driver technology and engineering principles shared across the entire Opticon MK2 series.
Driver Technology
The 4¾-inch bass/midrange driver uses a cone made from a blend of paper pulp and wood fibre. This composite material ensures minimal break-up resonance, delivering a high-resolution midrange and precise, coherent bass. The driver is driven by DALI's patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite) magnet system, which greatly reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents. The result is a drastic reduction in third-order distortion, allowing fine musical detail to come through cleanly.
The 29mm soft dome tweeter is derived from DALI's higher-end CALLISTO series. It offers lower distortion, higher power handling, and an extended low-frequency response compared to its predecessor, ensuring a smooth and natural handover from the woofer at the 3,000 Hz crossover point.
Cabinet & Port Design
The Opticon 1 MK2 features a 25mm-thick front baffle with extra internal bracing, which practically eliminates panel resonance and keeps the cabinet acoustically inert. The rear-firing reflex port uses a dual-flare shape that minimises turbulence at both the entry and exit flares, bringing port design into the realm of aerodynamics for cleaner, more extended bass response.
Build & Finish
Each Opticon 1 MK2 is hand-assembled in Denmark and undergoes individual testing and quality assurance before leaving the factory. The compact dimensions of 152 × 261 × 231mm (W × H × D) and a weight of 4.5 kg per speaker make it well-suited to bookshelves, desktop setups, or dedicated speaker stands in small to medium-sized rooms.
