The DALI Oberon Vokal is the dedicated centre channel speaker in DALI’s Oberon series, sitting between the entry-level Spektor Vokal and the higher-specification Opticon Vokal MK2 in the manufacturer’s range. Designed to anchor dialogue and centre-channel effects in a home cinema surround sound system, the Oberon Vokal pairs with any combination of Oberon series speakers for a tonally matched multi-channel setup.
Driver Technology
The Oberon Vokal employs a two-way driver configuration with a pair of 5.25-inch bass/midrange drivers flanking a centrally mounted 29 mm soft dome tweeter. The woofer cones use DALI’s wood fibre composite material — a blend of fine paper pulp reinforced with wood fibre strands — producing a stiff yet lightweight diaphragm that aims to reproduce fine detail with accuracy and transparency.
The tweeter was developed specifically for the Oberon series, drawing on design elements from the higher-end Opticon and Rubicon ranges. Its optimised front plate is engineered to provide wide dispersion and low colouration, while the lightweight dome allows higher sound pressure levels with less voice-coil excursion for improved control.
SMC Magnet Motor System
DALI’s Soft Magnetic Compound (SMC) technology is used in the Oberon Vokal’s magnet motor system. SMC reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents in the magnet system, resulting in lower third-order harmonic distortion. The practical effect is a cleaner, more relaxed midrange with greater detail retrieval than a conventional ferrite motor of similar size.
Cabinet Construction
The cabinet is constructed from high-density, CNC-machined MDF board finished in a carefully selected high-grade vinyl. Internal solid bracings span the cabinet to reinforce the structure and minimise resonance that could add unwanted colouration to the sound. A front-facing bass reflex port allows flexible placement, including inside AV furniture or close to a wall, without the bass loading issues that rear-ported designs can suffer in confined spaces.
