The DALI OBERON 7 is a large floorstanding speaker in the passive OBERON series, sitting between the OBERON 5 and the three-way OBERON 9. It is designed for medium to larger listening rooms where greater scale and bass authority are needed. As a two-way bass reflex design with dual woofers, it offers more low-frequency output and room presence than the single-woofer OBERON 5 while sharing the same driver technology and voicing across the range.
Driver Technology
The OBERON 7 uses two 7-inch woofers with DALI’s wood fibre cone construction. The cone material is chosen for its combination of low mass and high stiffness, contributing to a responsive midrange and controlled bass output. Each woofer incorporates DALI’s patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) disc in the magnet motor’s iron pole-piece. SMC has very high magnetic conductivity but extremely low electrical conductivity (approximately 1/10,000th that of iron), which greatly reduces the hysteresis and eddy currents that cause distortion and colouration in conventional iron pole-pieces. The result is a cleaner midrange with improved detail retrieval. A low-loss surround and spider suspension supports cone movement while minimising energy storage.
The high-frequency driver is a 29mm ultra-lightweight soft textile dome tweeter developed specifically for the OBERON series. It crosses over from the woofers at 2,300 Hz.
Cabinet Construction
The cabinet is built from high-density, CNC-machined MDF board finished in high-grade vinyl. Internal bracing is used throughout to reduce panel resonance and maintain structural rigidity. Bass loading is provided by a rear-firing reflex port tuned to 39.5 Hz, extending the low-frequency response to a stated 36 Hz. The cabinet sits on an elegantly shaped aluminium base for stability.
System Integration
The OBERON 7 is voiced to integrate seamlessly with other models in the OBERON range, making it suitable as the main front pair in a multi-channel home cinema system alongside the OBERON Vokal centre speaker and OBERON On-Wall or OBERON 1 surround speakers. A nominal impedance of 6 ohms and sensitivity of 88.5 dB (2.83V/1m) means it is well suited to amplifiers rated between 30 and 180 watts per channel.
