Description
The Oberon 3 is the larger of the two passive standmount models in DALI's Oberon series, sitting between the compact Oberon 1 and the floorstanding Oberon 5 and 7. It pairs the same 29mm oversized soft dome tweeter used across the range with a 7-inch wood-fibre woofer, the same driver fitted to the floorstanding Oberon 7. The result is a bookshelf-format cabinet with a scale of presentation closer to a small floorstander than a typical compact speaker.
Drivers and motor system
The 29mm soft dome tweeter is built around an oversized lightweight membrane that generates higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping voice-coil motion to a controlled minimum. Its front plate borrows geometry from DALI's higher Opticon and Rubicon ranges to extend frequency response and widen dispersion. The 7-inch low-loss woofer combines fine-grain paper pulp with wood fibres for a stiff, lightweight cone that resolves fine midrange and bass detail.
Both drivers benefit from DALI's patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite) material in the magnet system. SMC reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents, lowering third-order harmonic distortion for a more relaxed midrange.
Cabinet and dispersion
The cabinet is built from high-density CNC-machined MDF with internal bracing and is finished in high-grade vinyl. Twin rear-firing bass reflex ports use the rear wall to support low frequencies, so the Oberon 3 is intended for placement near a wall rather than well into the room. The driver geometry and crossover are tuned for a wide dispersion pattern, which means the speakers do not need to be toed in towards the listener and remain coherent off-axis.
Placement and partnering
The Oberon 3 will work on a substantial bookshelf or, preferably, on dedicated stands at seated ear height. With a nominal 6 ohm load, 87 dB sensitivity and a recommended amplifier power range of 25 to 150 watts, it is comfortable with most modern integrated amplifiers and AV receivers.
This is a clearance listing for remaining Dark Walnut stock. The DALI Oberon range has been superseded by the Oberon C wireless active range; passive Oberon stock is sold while supplies last and is no longer being produced.
