Daft Punk - Random Access Memories [Gatefold] (2LP) Vinyl

Random Access Memories is the fourth and final studio album by the French electronic duo Daft Punk, released on 17 May 2013 through Columbia Records. It follows Human After All (2005) and the Tron: Legacy soundtrack work, and pays tribute to the American music of the late 1970s and early 1980s, particularly that made in Los Angeles.

The Album

Recording took place in secrecy between 2008 and 2012 at Henson Recording Studios, Conway Recording Studios and Capitol Studios in California, Electric Lady Studios in New York City, and Gang Recording Studio in Paris. Working with keyboardist and arranger Chris Caswell, Daft Punk recruited session musicians to play live instrumentation and restricted the electronics to drum machines, a custom-built modular synthesiser and vintage vocoders. Contributors include Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams, Julian Casablancas, Paul Williams, Panda Bear, Todd Edwards, Chilly Gonzales, DJ Falcon and Paul Jackson Jr. Mick Guzauski mixed the record at Conway Studios in Hollywood, and Bob Ludwig mastered it at Gateway Mastering Studios.

Reception

Random Access Memories entered the UK Albums Chart at number one, selling 165,091 copies in its first week, and is the only Daft Punk album to top the US Billboard 200. It reached number one in twenty other countries, and the lead single "Get Lucky" topped the charts in more than 30. At the 2014 Grammy Awards the album won Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, while "Get Lucky" took Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 295 in its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and it is certified 2x Platinum in the United Kingdom by the BPI.

Two 180 gram black vinyl LPs on Columbia, catalogue number 88883716861, copyright Daft Life Ltd. under exclusive licence to Columbia Records. The set is issued in a gatefold jacket with a 12 inch booklet carrying full credits and the complete lyrics to every track.
