The Advance Paris X-A220EVO is a mono power amplifier from the Classic Line EVO range, sitting between the stereo X-A160EVO and the flagship X-A1200 monoblock. Designed and engineered in France, it delivers 220W RMS into 8Ω (350W into 4Ω) from a single channel, with a pair required for stereo operation. The EVO range shares a consistent design language — steel chassis, methacrylate front panel, and prominent VU meter — while each model targets a different power requirement.
Circuit Design & Amplification
The output stage uses a triple push-pull arrangement of complementary NJW0281G/NJW0302G power transistors mounted on a generously dimensioned heatsink. A rear-panel switch engages the High Bias function, which shifts the amplifier into Class A operation for the first watt before automatically transitioning to Class AB as power demand increases. In standard mode, the amplifier operates in Class AB throughout. The internal layout is compartmentalised, with each functional stage built on a separate PCB to minimise interference between sections.
Power Supply
A 700 VA toroidal transformer feeds the rectification stage, with four 10,000 µF / 80V smoothing capacitors providing a substantial energy reserve. This arrangement supports the high current demands of the output stage and contributes to the amplifier’s ability to drive low-impedance loads without compression.
Connectivity & Controls
The rear panel provides both unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) analogue inputs, selected via a toggle switch. A 12V trigger input and output allow integration with automated systems or daisy-chaining with other Advance Paris components such as the X-P1200 preamplifier. Speaker binding posts accept banana plugs or bare wire. A dimmer switch adjusts the VU meter illumination, and the mains voltage is switchable between 115V and 230V.
Construction
The chassis is built from steel frames with a methacrylate front panel that houses the backlit VU meter, calibrated in both dB and watts (8Ω). The amplifier measures 430 × 200 × 450mm (W × H × D) and weighs 21 kg. The overall build quality reflects the Classic Line’s focus on delivering high-level performance at a competitive price point.
