The Wharfedale Evo 4.CS is a slim, two-way centre channel speaker from the Evo 4 series — a range developed alongside Wharfedale’s flagship Elysian loudspeakers, sharing key driver and crossover technologies at a fraction of the cost. Where the larger Evo 4.C three-way centre channel can be challenging to accommodate, the 4.CS offers a more compact alternative with a low-profile cabinet that sits neatly below a screen or mounts flush to a wall.
AMT Tweeter
High frequencies are handled by Wharfedale’s 30 × 60mm Air Motion Transformer. Rather than a conventional dome, the AMT uses a large, pleated lightweight diaphragm driven across its surface by rows of strategically placed magnets. This design produces wide-bandwidth, low-distortion treble that remains detailed and open without becoming harsh or fatiguing over long listening sessions.
Kevlar Bass Drivers
Two 130mm (5-inch) woven Kevlar cone drivers handle the bass and midrange. Kevlar’s inherent stiffness ensures ideal piston-like motion across the operating band, while the rubber surrounds absorb resonance build-up in the cone structure. The dual-driver arrangement increases cone area for greater output and efficiency, with a measured sensitivity of 89 dB.
Cabinet Construction
The Evo 4.CS uses Wharfedale’s multi-layered sandwich cabinet construction, alternating soft, high-loss chipboard between stiff MDF layers. Each material cancels the other’s resonance characteristics, directing driver energy into the room rather than into cabinet vibration. The bass reflex design extends low-frequency response down to 45 Hz (−6 dB), while the slim profile keeps the enclosure discreet.
Connections
The rear panel carries dual sets of 5-way binding posts, enabling bi-wire or bi-amp connection. The terminals are angled to allow easier cable access when the speaker is placed close to a wall or inside a cabinet.
Evo 4 Home Cinema
The 4.CS is timbre-matched to the rest of the Evo 4 series, sharing the same AMT tweeter, Kevlar driver cone design, and crossover topology. It pairs naturally with the Evo 4.4 or 4.2 front speakers and the Evo 4.S surround speakers for a cohesive multi-channel system. For larger rooms or dedicated cinema spaces, the full-size Evo 4.C centre channel offers a three-way design with greater headroom.
