The Sabre-R is Ruark's passive bookshelf loudspeaker, a modern successor to the original Sabre speakers first launched in 1985. Designed as a two-way bass reflex standmount, the Sabre-R is intended for use with an external amplifier in a traditional hi-fi system or paired with one of Ruark's own streaming systems such as the R610 Music Console. This is an ex-display pair in the Fused Walnut veneer finish.
Drivers and Crossover
Each Sabre-R houses a 28mm Ruark silk dome tweeter and a 130mm (5-inch) Ruark NS+ woofer with treated natural fibre cone. The crossover point is set at 1.9kHz. Two pairs of binding posts with sockets are provided on the rear panel, allowing either single-wire or bi-wire connection to the amplifier.
Cabinet Design
The cabinet is a tuned bass reflex design with a double flared port, providing a 6.8-litre internal volume with a tuning frequency of 53Hz. Frequency response is quoted at 45Hz to 22kHz in typical room conditions. The removable grille uses a magnetic frame with acoustically transparent fabric. Sensitivity is rated at 86dB (2.83V at 1 metre) with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms (minimum 4.2 ohms). Ruark recommends amplifiers rated between 25W and 100W.
