Polk Audio Signature Elite ES50 Floorstanding Speakers Black (Pair)

The Polk Audio Signature Elite ES50 is the most compact floorstanding speaker in Polk's Signature Elite range, sitting below the larger ES55 and the flagship ES60. Despite its slim footprint, the ES50 uses a 2.5-way cascaded crossover design with dual 5.25-inch mica-reinforced polypropylene woofers and a 1-inch Terylene dome tweeter that is Hi-Res Audio certified to reproduce frequencies up to 40 kHz.

Driver Technology

The two 5.25-inch woofers use Polk's Dynamically Balanced driver design with mica-reinforced polypropylene cones. The 2.5-way cascaded crossover allows both woofers to operate together through the bass region while one rolls off at the crossover point of 2.3 kHz, handing over to the Terylene dome tweeter for mid and high frequencies. This arrangement extends bass reach without sacrificing midrange clarity.

Power Port Bass Enhancement

The ES50 features Polk's proprietary Power Port technology, a bass-loading system that smoothly transitions airflow from the rear port through a shaped diffuser, reducing turbulence and port noise. This allows the ES50 to reach down to 38 Hz without the chuffing or compression that conventional ported designs can exhibit at higher volumes.

Build & Connectivity

The cabinet uses laser-optimised internal bracing to minimise resonance and colouration. An anti-diffraction magnetic grille attaches without visible fixings, reducing edge diffraction whether fitted or removed. On the rear panel, dual gold-plated five-way binding posts allow bi-wiring or bi-amping for those who wish to drive the high and low frequency sections independently.

System Compatibility

With a sensitivity of 88 dB and compatibility with both 4-ohm and 8-ohm amplifier outputs, the ES50 is straightforward to drive from a wide range of amplifiers and AV receivers. Polk recommends amplification between 40 and 200 watts per channel. The ES50 is certified for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content, making it equally suited to two-channel stereo listening and multi-channel home cinema systems.
