The Polk Audio Reserve R500 is the most compact floorstanding speaker in Polk's Reserve Series, designed to deliver performance that draws on the brand's flagship Legend transducer technology at a more accessible price. Positioned below the dual-6.5-inch R600 and the triple-driver R700, the R500 uses two 5.25-inch drivers in a slim cabinet suited to medium-to-large listening rooms, making it equally capable as the front pair in a dedicated stereo system or as part of a multi-channel home cinema configuration.
Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter
High frequencies are handled by Polk's Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter, a 1-inch unit developed to extend treble response while maintaining smooth, wide off-axis dispersion. The distinctive pointed waveguide at its centre is engineered to broaden the listening window, ensuring consistent treble performance across a wide seating area rather than concentrating energy in a narrow sweet spot. The R500 carries Hi-Res Audio certification, confirming high-frequency extension to at least 40 kHz for accurate reproduction of high-resolution audio formats.
Turbine Cone Woofers
The two 5.25-inch mid-bass drivers use Polk's Turbine Cone design, a technology carried down from the flagship Legend series. The turbine geometry increases cone rigidity without adding mass, allowing the drivers to track the audio signal with greater accuracy and speed, even at high output levels. This translates to tighter bass definition and improved vocal clarity across the midrange.
X-Port & Eigentone Filters
Bass loading is provided by Polk's rear-firing X-Port, which incorporates a set of closed-pipe resonators tuned to absorb specific cabinet resonance frequencies. These Eigentone filters target unwanted standing waves inside the enclosure, reducing port noise and cabinet colouration. The result is cleaner upper bass and a more transparent midrange than a conventional rear-ported design would typically achieve.
Cabinet Construction
The enclosure is internally cross-braced to control panel resonance, while the exterior features rounded corners that help disperse sound broadly with minimal diffraction. The slim profile — just 255 mm wide — allows the R500 to integrate into rooms where a larger floorstanding speaker would be visually intrusive. Adjustable spike feet and rubber pads are included to suit both carpeted and hard-floor installations.
Home Cinema Compatibility
The R500 is certified for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced content, making it a strong candidate for surround-sound systems. It pairs naturally with other Reserve Series models — the R300 centre speaker, R100 or R200 bookshelf surrounds, and R900 Dolby Atmos height modules — to build a complete multi-channel system using a consistent driver and voicing family.
