The DALI SUB C-8 D sits in DALI's compact subwoofer range, positioned to partner with the SPEKTOR and OBERON speaker series, though its balanced engineering makes it a capable addition to any 2.0, 5.1, or 7.1 system regardless of brand. Available in Black Ash and White, it is designed to blend with most loudspeaker designs and room décors.
Design and Cabinet
The solid MDF cabinet is constructed to meet DALI's internal acoustic specifications. Four oversized polymer-based spikes raise the cabinet 30 mm from the floor, high enough to eliminate turbulence between the cabinet base and floor surface, whilst maintaining the efficiency advantage inherent in a down-firing configuration. This raised position also gives greater freedom in room placement.
Driver
The SUB C-8 D uses an 8-inch long-stroke down-firing woofer. The cone is formed from high-quality paper pulp, yielding a rigid structure with excellent breakup characteristics whilst remaining lightweight and agile. The motor is built around an oversized ferrite magnet and is optimised for maximum flux density within the voice coil gap. DALI's engineers targeted a high B/L (force factor) product, measured at 14 N/Ampere, to ensure that low-frequency detail is preserved even at higher output levels. The 26.5 mm four-layer voice coil is vented for air-cooling, maintaining stable impedance across output levels. The pole piece is also vented to reduce internal compression within the motor system, allowing the cone to move freely without any over- or under-pressure affecting linearity. The woofer surround is oversized to permit long and linear excursion, enabling both delicate and powerful transients to be reproduced without distortion.
Amplifier
The integrated 170W RMS Class D amplifier is engineered for linearity rather than raw output. Operating at 70% efficiency, it generates minimal heat, which is why the SUB C-8 D carries no external heatsink. The switch-mode power supply contributes to very low standby consumption of just 0.4W. A dual-mode limiter protects the driver by monitoring both the input signal amplitude relative to potential output level, and the available supply voltage relative to expected output. When either comparison indicates a risk, the limiter reduces the signal softly without affecting peak performance. Rear-panel controls include gain, crossover frequency (40–120 Hz), and a phase switch. Auto standby is also provided.
Connectivity and Placement
Two input options are provided: stereo RCA (low-pass filtered) and mono LFE RCA. The stereo RCA input enables the SUB C-8 D to integrate with stereo amplifiers that lack a dedicated subwoofer output, whilst the LFE input connects directly to AV receivers and processors. DALI recommends placing the unit in a corner or along a wall, with 10–30 cm clearance from the wall surface, to maximise bass output and room distribution. The compact footprint (295 mm wide, 310 mm deep) makes achieving a good position considerably easier than with larger subwoofer designs.
