The DALI Oberon 1 sits at the entry point of the Oberon range — a compact 2-way bookshelf speaker designed for smaller rooms, desktop setups, and situations where space is limited but genuine hi-fi performance is still expected. Above it in the passive Oberon lineup are the Oberon 3 (a larger bookshelf), the Oberon 5 and Oberon 7 floorstanders, the Oberon Vokal centre channel, and the Oberon On-Wall. Despite being the smallest speaker in the series, the Oberon 1 shares the same driver technologies found across the entire range.
Wood Fibre Cone Woofer
The 5¼-inch woofer uses a cone constructed from fine-grain paper pulp reinforced with wood fibres. This combination produces a structure that is both stiff and lightweight — stiff enough to resist unwanted flexing across the frequency band, and light enough to respond quickly to transient signals. The result is a natural, detailed midrange and controlled bass extension down to 51 Hz.
SMC Magnet System
DALI’s patented Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) technology is used in the woofer’s motor system. SMC reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents in the magnet assembly, which in conventional ferrite motors can colour the midrange and compress fine detail. DALI reports a drastic reduction in third-order distortion, contributing to a relaxed, open midrange presentation.
Oversized Soft Dome Tweeter
The 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter was developed specifically for the Oberon series. The oversized diaphragm generates higher sound pressure with less excursion than a smaller dome, keeping voice-coil movement to a controlled minimum. This translates to extended high-frequency response up to 26 kHz, wide dispersion for consistent off-axis listening, and low colouration.
Cabinet and Placement
The cabinet is constructed from high-density CNC-machined MDF board with internal bracing to minimise resonance, dressed in a high-grade vinyl finish. A rear-firing bass reflex port optimises low-frequency output, and a keyhole bracket on the rear panel allows the Oberon 1 to be wall-mounted without additional hardware. At just 274 mm tall and 3.9 kg per speaker, it integrates unobtrusively into bookshelves, desktops, or dedicated speaker stands.
