The A10 APEX is the centrepiece of Advance Paris’s 30th Anniversary APEX range — a limited-edition series that celebrates three decades of French audio engineering. It sits between the A8 APEX and the flagship A12 APEX in the lineup, sharing the same hybrid architecture that has defined the brand’s integrated amplifiers: an ECC81/12AT7 tube preamplifier feeding a Class A/B solid-state power amplifier stage. The APEX edition refines the formula established by the A10 Classic with improved DAC electronics, lower-noise power supplies, premium passive components, and a distinctive all-black finish with high-contrast white VU meters.
Hybrid Tube / Transistor Design
The preamplifier section uses a pair of ECC81/12AT7 twin triode tubes, visible through a backlit window on the top panel. These tubes were chosen for their favourable overload characteristics and low-noise performance in the low-voltage preamplifier circuit. The result combines the tonal richness and harmonic warmth of valve amplification with the grip, current delivery, and damping factor of a transistor output stage built around a substantial toroidal transformer. A switchable High-Bias mode doubles the Class A bias current in the output stage, extending the amplifier’s Class A operating window for a more immediate and textured presentation at moderate listening levels.
Power and Performance
The A10 APEX delivers 130 watts per channel into 8 Ohms and 198 watts into 4 Ohms in Class A/B, giving it sufficient headroom to drive demanding loudspeakers with authority. Total harmonic distortion measures 0.045% at 1kHz, 90W into 8 Ohms, and the signal-to-noise ratio is rated at 106dB. Frequency response extends from 20Hz to 80kHz (±1dB), comfortably encompassing the audible range and beyond.
Built-In DAC and Digital Connectivity
The onboard ESS Sabre ES9018 DAC handles digital sources with resolution and refinement, supporting PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz across all digital inputs, with DSD64 and DSD128 playback available via the USB-B input. Three optical inputs, one coaxial, and one USB-B provide broad digital connectivity, while an HDMI eARC input allows the A10 APEX to serve as the hub of a TV-based system — with CEC support for automatic power-on and volume control from the TV remote.
Analogue Connectivity
On the analogue side, five unbalanced RCA line inputs and one balanced XLR input cover most source requirements, while a built-in MM phono stage with RIAA equalisation allows direct turntable connection without an external phono preamp. Outputs include a stereo pre-out for external power amplification, dual subwoofer outputs (configurable as mono or stereo), a fixed rec-out for recording devices, and an AMP-IN input that allows the A10 APEX to be used as a dedicated stereo power amplifier within a home cinema system. A 6.35mm headphone output on the front panel handles private listening. Dual sets of speaker terminals (Zone A and Zone B) support bi-wiring or multi-room operation.
Design and Control
The A10 APEX is unmistakably Advance Paris. The twin analogue VU meters, the glowing tube window, and the substantial chrome volume knob create a front panel that combines retro charm with modern sophistication. The limited 30th Anniversary black finish with white VU meters gives the APEX edition a distinctive, premium appearance. An infrared remote control provides full access to source selection, volume, bass, treble, balance, and bypass mode, which defeats the tone controls for purist listening. Trigger in/out connections allow synchronised power control with other components, and an optional A-BTC Bluetooth dongle adds aptX Adaptive wireless streaming — both from mobile devices to the amplifier and from any connected source to Bluetooth headphones.
