REL Acoustics T/5x Subwoofer Black

The REL T/5x is the entry model in the T/x series — REL's dual-purpose subwoofer range designed for both dedicated music systems and mixed-use home cinema setups. Positioned below the T/7x and T/9x, the T/5x borrows its 8-inch bass engine directly from its elder sibling, the T/7x, and delivers frequency extension to -6dB at 32Hz from a compact closed cabinet measuring just 300 × 307 × 313mm.

Driver & Cabinet

The T/5x uses an 8-inch (200mm) long-throw FibreAlloy™ driver — a composite of aluminium and light paper chosen for its balance of stiffness and low mass. The inverted alloy centre cap and steel chassis contribute to controlled pistonic motion. REL's engineering notes indicate the suspension has been reworked relative to the previous generation to increase throw capability, improving dynamic headroom in a compact form. The driver fires downward into a closed box cabinet constructed from rigid laminated plywood with internal bracing to minimise resonance, keeping bass tight and defined rather than bloated.

Amplification

A 125-watt (RMS) Class A/B amplifier drives the FibreAlloy™ cone. REL specifies fully electronic protection covering set safe, DC fault, and output short conditions, which protects the amplifier under difficult loads without mechanical fusing in normal operation.

Connectivity

The T/5x provides three input paths simultaneously, enabling connection to both a stereo system and a home cinema processor at the same time. The high-level input uses a Neutrik Speakon connector and a 10-metre cable is supplied, allowing connection directly to an amplifier's speaker terminals to capture the full character of the driving amplifier. Low-level inputs comprise one RCA for stereo use and a separate LFE RCA input with its own independent volume control, so music and cinema levels can be set independently without compromising either. Optional REL Arrow wireless connectivity is available as a separately purchased accessory.
