The Pro-Ject X2 sits above the X1 in Pro-Ject's X-Series turntable range, offering a step up in plinth mass, platter weight, and tonearm sophistication. Supplied with an Ortofon 2M Silver moving magnet cartridge — a variant manufactured exclusively for Pro-Ject featuring silver-plated copper coils and an elliptical stylus — the X2 is designed to deliver a refined, detailed performance straight from the box.
Construction & Plinth
The X2 is built around a heavy, dense MDF plinth finished in eight layers of hand-polished satin black paint. This mass-loaded approach reduces unwanted resonances to near-imperceptible levels. Three height-adjustable, damped aluminium feet provide isolation from the supporting surface and allow precise levelling.
Platter & Drive System
A 30mm-thick, 2kg resonance-free acrylic platter is driven via a sub-platter belt-drive arrangement. The motor is suspended and decoupled from the plinth using a precision-tuned TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) belt, which minimises the transfer of motor vibration to the platter. An internal DC/AC generator board combined with an electronic speed control board provides clean, stable power to the motor, with push-button switching between 33, 45, and 78 RPM — the latter being an uncommon feature at this price point.
Tonearm
The 9-inch (230mm effective length) tonearm uses a carbon/aluminium sandwich construction. The wider-diameter tube combines the rigidity of carbon fibre with the damping properties of aluminium, resulting in a design that is both stiff and resistant to external interference. Azimuth and VTA (vertical tracking angle) are fully adjustable, allowing precise cartridge alignment. The tonearm has an effective mass of 13.5g and supports a tracking force range of 0–30mN.
Cartridge
The included Ortofon 2M Silver is a moving magnet design with silver-plated copper coils and an elliptical diamond stylus. It tracks at 1.8g and delivers a smooth, detailed sound with extended high-frequency response courtesy of the silver winding. The cartridge is pre-mounted from the factory, making setup straightforward.
Connectivity & Accessories
The X2 is supplied with a Connect it E semi-balanced RCA phono cable for connection to an external phono stage. An acrylic dust cover is included. A 15V DC / 0.8A external power supply is provided.
